This is a 45-minute yin style yoga class. In yin yoga, the main goal from a physical perspective is to increase flexibility by targeting deep connective tissue in the body (fascia, ligaments, joints and bones). This is achieved by holding deep stretches for at least 3 minutes each–stretches in which the goal is to surrender your weight and muscle tension to the force of gravity–the best tool for you to get deeper into a pose. Yin yoga is a great opportunity to notice the patterns and imbalances within your own body as well as notice the patterns within your mind as you sit in discomfort. In yin yoga, you find your edge and create transformation by sitting deep enough in a pose where it isn’t comfortable–but also isn’t painful (to avoid strain or injury).
