Job Description:

As an instructor at The Gravity Vault Upper Saddle River, you are the face of the business and have the most customer interaction of all of our staff.  Instructors work directly under the supervision of the management team to ensure a consistent positive customer experience is reached on a daily basis.  

Job Responsibilities:

  • Using our POS system to check in customers and answer any questions they may have in person or over the phone.
  • Assisting customers with membership and retail sales.
  • Belaying for private sessions, youth and adult classes as well as parties.
  • Ensuring safety of both staff and customers within the facility.  
  • Maintaining cleanliness of the facility by assisting with opening and closing cleaning procedures.
Requirements: 
  • Must be a minimum of 16 years of age.
  • Flexible availability; must be available for at least 3-4 shifts (4 hour minimum) including evening and weekend availability.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Climbing experience is a plus but not required. We’ll teach you everything you need to know.

Gym Manager

Job Description:

The Gravity Vault is looking for an outgoing and energetic individual with a strong work ethic to join our team as Manager of our Upper Saddle River location.  The Manager will oversee the daily operations of the facility and manage the gym’s staff.  As the face behind the desk, the manager is also one of the primary points of contact for all groups and events held at the facility. Our ideal candidate will strive to create a positive and inclusive climbing environment for climbers of all experience levels and have fun while doing it.

Position start date: On or around April 1, 2024

Job Responsibilities Include:

-Be the on-site expert on all programs and options to climb with The Gravity Vault

-Ensure company and brand-wide standards are met and all employees comply with policies and procedures on programming, cleanliness, and safety

-Train Instructors and Shift Leaders

-Oversee and plan staffing for events, classes, and instructor-led climbing options

-Provide excellent customer service to all of the customers

-Collaborate with General Manager on all hiring, terminations and performance documentation for all staff

-Keep the General Manager aware of any operational issues, including late shifts, accidents, etc

-Coordinate with the General Manager to strategize and set goals for the facility

-Plan and execute all location and brand wide events including but not limited to climbing competitions and member nights

-Create the weekly schedule to adequately meet the business needs of each gym while maintaining sensitivity to employees’ work/life balance

-Proactively manage the staffing pool by forecasting future changes in workload and staff availability to determine the need to hire staff in a timely fashion

-Promote the company through public relations efforts by creating and maintaining local relationships and by sponsoring and/or participating in community events

-Oversee internal and external Marketing communications

 

Requirements:

-Must be a minimum of 18 years old

-Minimum two years management experience in a climbing gym, fitness facility, retail setting or hospitality industry

-Excellent verbal and written communication skills

-Self-motivated with excellent time-management skills and the ability to juggle and prioritize multiple tasks

-Willingness to be hands-on, work independently and as part of a team

-Ability to give and receive feedback

-Ability to be critical of details and ensure matters are addressed promptly

-Valid CPR and First Aid Certification required by first day of training

-Working knowledge of POS Systems, G Suite and scheduling applications preferred

-Indoor / Outdoor climbing experience is a plus

-Full time Tuesday- Saturday schedule, with flexible evenings and weekend availability

  • Motivate the kids and empower them to reach new heights

This will include learning about our program offerings, front desk operations, retail inventory, scheduling, safety standards and more. We are looking for an individual who is proactive and team-oriented with a positive attitude and willingness to learn. 

Job Type: Part-time    Pay: $20 per hour

Eligible applicants: (Must be one of the following)

  • Current NJ undergraduate students
  • Current NJ graduate students
  • Recent NJ college graduates who have graduated less than one year prior to start of internship
  • College student who is a permanent New Jersey resident (proof of residency required)

Responsibilities:

  • Become proficient on internal software systems.
  • Prioritize responsibilities in order to maintain a productive gym environment. 
  • Communicate with customers via phone and email.
  • Take bookings and payments from customers.
  • Track attendance, collecting and filing necessary paperwork for summer camp.
  • Work with outside vendors to ensure contracted deliverables are met.
  • Address customer service issues that may arise.
  • Assist with social media.
  • Assist with the planning of member engagement events.
  • Assist with facility cleaning protocols.
  • Learn technical skills related to the industry including the opportunity to teach climbing skills.
