Ready to take your climbing to the next level? Our Lead Climbing Class is designed to teach climbers the skills they need to confidently lead climb and belay for indoor sport climbing. Whether you’ve never led before or it’s been a while, this class will prepare you for a whole new climbing experience at The Gravity Vault Indoor Rock Gyms!

In this class, you’ll learn all the fundamentals of lead climbing and lead belaying, including:

• Lead climbing equipment education: Understand the tools of the trade, including ropes, quickdraws, and belay devices.
• Climbing and clipping techniques: Practice efficient movement and proper rope clipping for safe and successful climbs.
• Body movement while lead climbing: Learn how to navigate routes while managing the rope.
• Mental preparation: Build the confidence needed to face the unique challenges of lead climbing.
• Belay techniques with a Petzl Gri-Gri: Master feeding rope, dynamic belay techniques, and rope management.
• Rope maintenance: Understand proper care and handling of ropes to extend their life and ensure safety.

This Lead Climbing Class is an excellent opportunity to expand your skills and gain access to new areas of our gym. After completing the course, climbers will earn a lead certification on their account, allowing them to:

• Check out ropes and Gri-Gri devices for free at the front desk.
• Access our lead-only routes in the arch and lead corner on the back wall.
• Lead climb on top rope routes equipped with quickdraws.

Class Details

• Pre-Requisites: Climbers must be Top Rope Belay Certified and confident top rope belaying following all of the essentials. We recommend climbers feel confident climbing a 5.9 on top rope. If you are interested in taking the lead class and are not climbing a 5.9 please stop by the front desk so we can better understand your climbing experience and determine if a lead class is a good fit for you.

Top Rope Belay Certification Class 

Looking to become more independent in the climbing gym? Our Top-Rope Belay Certification Class is designed for climbers of all levels who are new to belaying or want to improve their technique.

This belay class is perfect for teenagers, parents, or adult climbers who want to gain the confidence and skills to climb on their own. In the class, you'll learn the basics of climbing safety, how to use belay devices, and all the necessary techniques to belay safely indoors. Afterward, you'll have the opportunity to practice your new skills, so you can feel comfortable and confident on the climbing wall on a free day pass to stay after the class and practice your new skills!

What You'll Learn

• Climbing safety and verbal commands, ensuring you and others stay safe on the wall.
• Rope and harness safety, including how to properly use climbing equipment.
• An introduction to belay devices like Gri Gri’s and ATC’s.
• Knot tying and belaying, the essentials you need to know to control the rope safely.

Once you’ve passed the Top-Rope Belay Certification, you’ll be able to climb independently on our 35-foot top rope climbing walls, which feature over 100 routes to try. This class gives you the freedom to enjoy the gym on your own terms, whether you’re climbing for fun, fitness, or skill-building.
