The Gravity Vault is looking for highly energetic individuals to work as Front Desk Staff. Our Front Desk Staff are the first to greet every person that enters the gym and are the embodiment of The Gravity Vault mission statement. They insure every person regardless of identity, age, or experience feels welcomed to a safe, fun, and clean climbing environment. We need people who pride themselves on a job well done, excel in providing exceptional customer/climbing experiences, who are goal and detail oriented, eager, and who are willing to perform the daily tasks needed to maintain a clean gym and welcoming community.  

Basic job duties include but are not limited to retail and membership sales, informing members and new climbers of different programming options, answering the phone, teaching top rope belay certification class, and booking staff led events.

All candidates must be willing to engage with members and new climbers to keep them excited for climbing at The Gravity Vault.

 Job Requirements
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to take direction and work as part of a team.

  • Willingness to maintain and clean the gym throughout your shift.

  • Weekend and / or closing availability.

Gym Manager

Job Title: Climbing Gym Manager

Job Summary 

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Climbing Gym Manager to lead daily facility operations, foster a welcoming community, and drive operational growth. The Gravity Vault Princeton opened in December 2024, and has an active and engaged climbing community. 

Reporting directly to the General Manager, you will oversee front desk staff, facility maintenance, visitor safety, and youth and adult programming. Working in close collaboration with our Head Routesetter (detailed in a separate job posting), you will also support operational oversight, scheduling alignment, and safety compliance across the route setting department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operations & Administration: Manage day-to-day facility operations, including inventory and point-of-sale (POS) operations using Approach software.
  • Team Leadership: Recruit, train, and mentor staff supervisors, instructors, and coaches while scheduling staff to ensure an inclusive environment, shift coverage, and high customer service standards.
  • Setting Oversight: Collaborate with the Head Routesetter to align setting schedules, wall turnover timelines, budget needs, and workplace safety protocols.
  • Youth & Community Programming: Direct and grow youth climbing initiatives, including introductory classes, youth climbing teams, summer camps, and birthday parties.
  • Safety & Compliance: Enforce industry safety protocols, equipment inspections, risk management policies, and staff certifications.
  • Communication: Serve as one of 2 primary operational contacts for members, staff, and vendors, maintaining clear verbal and written communication across all channels.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Experience: Previous supervisory or management experience within a commercial climbing gym setting.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills across member-facing and administrative interactions.
  • Leadership: Demonstrated leadership and staff management capabilities with a proven track record of team building.
  • Organization: Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills with sharp attention to detail.
  • Youth Program Track Record: Demonstrated experience successfully leading, expanding, or managing youth climbing programs (classes, teams, camps, parties).
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with Approach point-of-sale and gym management software (or equivalent climbing gym management platforms).
  • Setting Management (desired): Experience managing or overseeing a route setting team and setting department operations.

Route Setter

The Route Setters are some of the most important contributors at The Gravity Vault. Route Setters are responsible for all of the climbing routes and problems in our facilities. We look for creative individuals who love climbing and are experienced setters.

  • Setting roped routes and boulder problems in a team environment.
  • Removing & cleaning of holds to prepare for route setting.
  • Set up and cleanup of Setting Safety Zones.
  • Forerunning your Routes/Problems.

Assistant Team Coach

Job Description:

As a Assistant Team Coach for The Gravity Vault you will facilitate the training for our Youth Climbing Teams.  In the Team Coach role you will have the opportunity to work with other coaching staff to develop and execute training regimens, practice schedules, technique lessons and more. You will mentor the kids as they progress through our program and help them to achieve their climbing goals.

Head Route Setter

Job Description:

Job Title: Head Routesetter

Job Summary

We are seeking a talented and safety-focused Head Routesetter to lead routesetting operations across our 17,500 sq. ft. climbing facility. The Gravity Vault Princeton opened in December 2024, and has an active and engaged climbing community. 

The Head Route Setter Position will oversee an existing team of 2 routesetters along with a rotation of guest setters. Responsible for all location route setting, wall and equipment maintenance, and work with gym management on setting schedules, safety, and procedures. This is a part time position that reports to the General Manager. 

Head Route Setter Responsibilities:

  • Manage and oversee location's route setting program.
  • In coordination with the General Manager, develop and adhere to route setting budget schedules on a rotating basis, enabling new routes and problems to be delivered consistently.
  • Conform to facility work at height standards and maintain oversight of safe job site practices.
  • Ensure the highest level of route setting creativity and quality control throughout the facility through forerunning and route adjustments.
  • Assign grades to climbs with a focus on consistency and accuracy.
  • Help location management train employees to assist with maintenance, PPE inspections, and mentor apprentice setters.
  • Maintain regular communications with the contracted setters. 
  • Maintain setting log and reconcile setting invoices. 
  • Maintain and inspect facility fixtures and equipment.  
  • Perform and oversee auto belay inspections, maintenance and rotation.
  • Maintain and update Training board systems as needed.
  • Coordinate route setting support for location events with the General Manager.
  • Maintain route setting supply inventory.

Requirements

  • Extensive indoor and outdoor climbing experience including bouldering and sport climbing
  • Ability to stand, climb, and work for extended periods on uneven surfaces including in front and behind climbing wall structures
  • Ability to lift, carry, and haul loads of up to 50 pounds for short periods of time over uneven surfaces
  • Ability to sit and suspend from a wall in a harness for extended periods of time at heights up to 40 feet, including proper use of work at height PPE according to manufacturer’s instructions
  • Ability to safely move, place, operate and stand on ladders according to manufacturer's instructions
  • Ability to use hand and power tools with applicable PPE according to manufacturer's instructions
  • Ability to follow and perform emergency rescue procedures
  • Ability to forerun boulder problems graded at least V8 and roped routes 5.13+.
  • CPR/AED, and Basic First Aid Certification

Preferred

  • Minimum of 3 years of sport and bouldering setting experience
  • Climbing Wall Association Work At Height Certification or similar training
  • USA Climbing Route Setting Membership and Level 1 Certification
