Job Description:

Instructor/Front Desk

At The Gravity Vault Marin Indoor Rock Climbing Gym, we empower our team members to create a dynamic training and recreational environment that promotes inclusion for individuals from all walks of life. We share the common goal of making Gravity Vault Marin a great place to climb and build community, and we want you to help us achieve this.

As an Instructor for Gravity Vault Marin, you are the face of the business. You are the primary point of contact for every customer interaction. From front desk check-in to event coordination, you are a customer facing team member that gets things done right the first time. Instructors work directly under the supervision of the management team and coaching staff to ensure a consistent positive customer experience is reached on a daily basis.

 Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Front Desk Operations: Answering phones, collection of customer information and payments. Must be present and attentive to the customers needs at all times.
  • Belay Checks: Review safety standards for ALL individuals entering the gym from initial visitors to returning members.
  • Staff Belay Participation: belay first time visitors or members to enhance their gym climbing experience. Operate as support staff during classes and team programs.
  • Party and Event Coordination: Work directly with the management team to ensure all parties and events exceed customer expectations. You will be the primary point of contact for the party / event host. The ability to positively interact with customers and prioritize their needs is a must.
  • Cleaning and Organization: Must have an attention to detail. Our retail and gym space requires routine cleaning on a daily basis. Instructors are required to execute daily cleaning regiments.

 Requirements:

  • Must be a minimum of 16 years of age
  • Must be willing and able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Must be willing and able to work evening, weekend and holiday shifts
  • Possess strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Enjoy working with young children and adults
  • Enjoy working in a collaborative environment
  • Open to learning and developing skills as a climbing class instructor
  • COVID - 19 Vaccine Required

Shift Leader

Job Description:

As a Shift Leader for Gravity Vault Marin, you will facilitate the daily success of the gym through your leadership support skills. Working directly with the management team, you will assist in the daily operations of the building, mentor the Instructor Staff to ensure our service exceeds  customers expectations, and verify our safety standards are being upheld at all times during your shift. Instructors and Customers will look to you for solutions at any given time. Your ability to demonstrate a positive attitude while solving the issue or concern at hand is critical to our success.  

Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Front Desk Operational Support: Oversee the facilities operation and flow of activities. Must possess the ability to facilitate Instructors’ workflow through the day. Understand how to prioritize responsibilities in order to maintain a productive gym environment. Coordinate with management on daily retention and acquisition activities.
  • Safety Standards: Ensure all Instructors are held to the safety standards demonstrated in training. Inspect all areas of the gym for safety and cleanliness.
  • Staff Belay Coordination: Review and coordinate Instructor Staff positioning to maximize positive experience for all customers throughout the entirety of the day.
  • Cleaning and Organization: Review, oversee and execute the completion of the daily cleaning regiment throughout the gym. Verify all merchandise in the retail space is neat and organized.

Requirements:

  • Must be a minimum of 21 years of age
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred
  • Must be willing and able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Must be willing and able to work evening, weekend and holiday shifts
  • Possess strong interpersonal communication skills

Assistant Gym Manager

Job Description:

As the Assistant Manager you will work directly with the General Manager to ensure excellence in client service management while maintain outstand daily operational performance of The Gravity Vault Marin facility. Through constant collaboration, you will be a leader in expansion of an inclusive and dynamic climbing work environment.  

Job Responsibilities Include:
  • Responsible for on-site oversight and engagement in daily workflow productivity while maintaining client experience excellence.
  • Through collaboration with the General Manager, produce dynamic weekly scheduling based on staff availability and capability while maintaining payroll budgeted hours and expenses.
  • Provide point person customer service and solution-based problem solving at the front desk, over the phone, and via email correspondence.
  • Become an expert on all programs and options to climb with The Gravity Vault.
  • Ensure company and brand wide standards are met, and that all employees are updated and comply with The Gravity Vault's policies and procedures on programming, cleanliness, and safety.
  • Help plan, execute, and work location-based events including but not limited to climbing competitions and member nights.
  • Coordinate staffing for events, classes, and instructor led climbing options.
  • Help hire, train, and manage all Shift Leader, Belayer, and Front Desk Employees.
  • Coordinate with management team to set goals and facility strategy
  • Uphold The Gravity Vault Mission
Job Requirements:
  • Ability and Willingness to work Nights, Weekends and Holidays
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Prior experience with indoor rock climbing preferred
  • Demonstrated staffing and scheduling experience
  • 2-5 years of full-time work experience
  • Supervisory experience in a climbing gym, fitness facility, or retail setting
  • Experience with Excel, scheduling software and POS Systems preferred
  • Excellent communication skills
  • CPR and CWI certification is a plus
  • All candidates must be willing to make the customer experience a priority and engage with climbers to keep them excited for climbing at The Gravity Vault!

Route Setter

Job Description:

Routesetting is a crucial task for Gravity Vault Marin since routesetters are responsible for creating and maintaining the quality and diversity of climbs that The Gravity Vault seeks in each of its facilities. We are looking for creative individuals that possess an above average understanding of climbing movement so that they can create products that reflect the quality, fluidity, consistency, and enjoyability that our customers expect on a daily basis.

Responsibilities

  • Setting part time 1-3 days per week depending on the demand of the facility
  • Forerunning and analyzing the climbs that have been set
  • Ensuring that all climbs meet the facility's quality and safety standards
  • Adhering to facility policies and protocols for work at height
  • Establishing work zones and cleaning up
  • Stripping, washing, and sorting holds
  • Organizing and maintaining equipment
  • General maintenance
  • Other work at height tasks

Requirements

  • Bring a positive attitude, professionalism, and eagerness to be a role model in our community
  • Comprehensive understanding of climbing movement in a wide range of styles
  • Adaptability, creativity, empathy, flexibility, strong work ethic, attention to detail, passion
  • Strong desire to improve as a climber and routesetter
  • Lead climbing proficiency
  • Ability to work occasional long days and off hours
  • Ability to work well in a team, be receptive to feedback, be collaborative
  • Ability to forerun at least 5.12 and V6

Preferred Skills

  • Prior setting experience
  • CWA Work at Height experience and/or familiarity
  • Competition climbing and setting experience
  • USAC routesetting certifications and/or experience
  • Covid 19 vaccine is required
